Three Types of Dental Insurance
A majority of Americans don’t have dental insurance; that’s a statistic that has been validated time and time again.
And if in reading this, you have decided to go about looking for information that will help you in finding more about dental insurance (whether you want a delta dental individual or family plan) before buying, then you should understand the broad categories that insurance of this type falls under.
So here is a note on the types of dental insurance that you can opt for:
#1: HMO Dental Plans
This type of plan works best for large groups of people who are assigned to a particular clinic. The premiums that they have to pay do not depend on the kind of treatment but the number of patients that come to that clinic for treatment.
The downside with this kind of plan is the fact that the HMO providers don’t make as much money in comparison to the costs involved in carrying out certain procedures for their patients. This results in limiting the number of patients that they will see with HMO plans as opposed to those who have a decent individual dental plan. Some of them even take shortcuts when treating their patients to meet with the overall costs involved.
#2: Discount Dental Plans
This plan involves paying an annual membership fee where you receive a dental discount card which supports treatment with certain dental care providers. Depending on the plan that you opt for, you can save up to 10 to 60 percent.
The beauty of this kind of plan is that there are no deductibles, co-pays, paperwork or pre-qualifications and depending on the plan and coverage options you choose, you will get discounts on the dental services and procedures.
#3: Direct Reimbursement Plans
While these plans are not considered to be insurance plans, most employers use this type of arrangement to fund their employees’ dental costs. As soon as you pay the direct fees to the dental care provider, your employer will then reimburse the amounts paid to them using this savings funds.
